Hospice of South Georgia, Inc., was established in 1999, in Jesup, Georgia, and is a community-based and community-supported non-profit organization dedicated to providing professional yet compassionate clinical, emotional, spiritual and bereavement support to our patients and their families. In order to better serve the citizens in our 4,500 square mile service area, we committed to build our own facility. The land was generously donated by Georgia Power on Sunset Boulevard, in Jesup, across from Bill Morris Park, providing a more accessible site for the Hospice facility. The facility will be built in two phases. With donations from the community and areas we serve, we were able to begin construction and ground breaking for Phase I was held on September 23, 2011.
Phase I: Hospice Administrative Facility
Phase I is our new administrative facility shown below and includes a small chapel and conference room. It is located at 1625 Sunset Blvd in Jesup. This facility includes all administrative areas needed to allow us to continue providing quality care to our patients in homes, nursing homes, and community hospitals. It will also serve the future administrative needs of the inpatient facility.
Phase 2: The Inpatient Facility
Phase II will be a state-of-the-art inpatient facility and will be built as funds are available. This phase will include inpatient rooms and required support areas such as dietary, environmental, maintenance, nursing, etc. This phase is required to be staffed and operates similar to that of a hospital or nursing home. The development of this phase will be based on stability and amount of census, along with ability to maintain required staffing and financially support the facility while continuing to provide care in homes and nursing homes.
This Phase of the project has strict guidelines set forth by federal and state regulations. Just as a hospital or nursing home, the facility must be staffed and operable 24-hours a day, seven days a week regardless of the inpatient facility’s census. Operations in such a facility are closely monitored and surveyed at both state and federal levels.
